Cons: Delays, delays
I HAVE TRAVELED FROM ALTON AMTRAK TRAIN STATION TO OTHER STATIONS AND I ENJOY THE RIDES AND MEETING PEOPLE.
Just plan for you trip to be delayed. I'd say 90% of the trips I've taken have been delayed anywhere from 30mins to multiple hours. Even if the weather is great and other trains seem to be working just fine. Plan to take a train that would have you arrive hours before you need to be somewhere. If you don't care about being delayed, then this is the service for you.
It's not the place it's the company. Amtrak needs competition to step up their game. I'm getting accustomed to at least 2hr delay on each trip. Only good thing is I can park my car at the Alton station and join the train else I'd definitely go for the bus.
I'm not sure how much of an effect the new station will have, but my only complaint about Amtrak are the delays. As a frequent traveler on the Lincoln Service to Chicago, I can say expect 30 min- 2 hour delay there, and at most 1 hour back to Alton.
Drove to the location there it was closed down drove all around for the new location for alton amtrak google needs to update the address.
